“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.”

Ezekiel 22:30

This week as we continue our emphasis on prayer we’re going to look at the topic of intercession. This passage from Ezekiel is at the end of a chapter where God looks at his people and lists out the depth of their sins. At the end God says that he looked for someone to stand up and intercede for his people. In this case God was looking for someone to plead their case to forgive their sins. In this instance no one would stand up, no one would intercede or ask God for mercy and the chapter ends with God promising to bring judgement.

Often in the Bible we find that a handful or righteous people interceding for their city, their friends and families can change the atmosphere and God is still look for those people to “stand in the gap” today.
